Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education services are provided to any child, birth to school age, who is identified as having a disability. Services which are available include: Case management, family consultation,  preschool classrooms, speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, supervised mainstreaming and direct instruction from a specialist in the areas of vision and hearing impairment. These services are delivered on a cooperative basis by the Douglas Education Service District and Regional Programs for Vision and Hearing Impaired.

The services which make up the Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education can be delivered in ESD classrooms, HeadStart classrooms, various community preschool sites, or at the child's home if that is more appropriate. Approximately 650 children annually are currently receiving Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education Services.

ELIGIBILITY:

Children age birth to five years who have qualifying disabilities in the gross motor, fine motor, receptive, and expressive language, self-help, social and/or cognitive areas.

SERVICES:
  • Early intervention and early childhood education; feeding clinic and pediatric assessment includes speech, physical, and occupational therapy.
