Be a Part of an Exciting Research Study
If you are a parental caregiver of a child (either a minor or an adult) with a developmental disability you are invited to participate in a research study designed to understand how parents adjust to the stress associated with caring for a child with a developmental disability from a stress and coping theoretical perspective. The study is being conducted by Pei-Chun Hsieh, a doctoral student from the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington.
The purpose of the study is to investigate possible factors that may promote successful adaptation in parental caregivers who are providing care to a child with a developmental disability.
The aims of this study are:
- To provide a description of parental characteristics and the demands placed on these parental caregivers.
- To assess the relationship between coping resources and care giving appraisals among parental caregivers.
- To examine how care giving appraisals can buffer the effect of care giving demands on quality of life among parental caregivers.
- To investigate how leisure-time satisfaction can influence the impacts of care giving demands on quality of life among parental caregivers.
It is hoped that the results of the present study will help service agencies target families who may be at greater risk as well as provide recommendations for developing programs that may better serve these parental caregivers.
If you agree to participate, you will be one of approximately 435 subjects who will be participating in this research. If you agree to be in the study, you will be asked to do the following:
- You will be asked to complete an online survey, which will take approximately 20 to 25 minutes to complete.
- Your participation in this study is completely voluntary and anonymous.
- You may withdrawal from the study at any time with no penalty.
- In appreciation for your time and effort, you can opt to enter a drawing for one of ten $50 Target Gift Cards upon completing the survey. This study is inviting an estimated 435 participants to complete the survey; therefore, the estimated odds of winning are one out of 43. To be included in the drawing, please enter your name and email address at the end of the survey as instructed. The drawing will be held in early September.
If you would like to participate in this study, please log on to complete the online survey at:
